We love living in Cononley, we have been here for much longer than we have had the pub and think it’s a great place to stay, or just for a visit. Cononley itself is a traditional Yorkshire village with sturdy stone dwellings and sturdy warm folk. If you want to know more about the village you’ll find it here www.colinpickles.me.uk plus a village paper is published once a quarter. The village has it's own website at www.cononley.com
Campers and caravanners are well catered for in Cononley. The Riverside Caravan Site on Moorfoot Lane is situated within 300 mts of The New Inn. The site is on a working farm and enjoys stunning views across the Aire Valley. Further details are available HERE
Skipton is very close by and is a really well known Yorkshire Dales attraction with lots to see. The Town Hall often has interesting local art exhibitions and was featured on National TV for its archive of art treasures. Skipton Castle is one of Britain’s best preserved medieval castles and offers a fantastic family day out. The market in Skipton, which takes place on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, has great local produce and some of the area’s most appealing characters, even if you don’t buy anything you will definitely enjoy the ‘craic’ just wandering round with the rest of the throng. We are a perfect place to refresh yourselves before or after visiting Skipton and can give you all the inside information on where to get the best veg, cheese or woolly hats in the market.
A little further afield you have the choice of two steam railways (never let it be said that we live in the past round here!). There is the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. Unfortunately neither of these passes by the New Inn back door, but we are only 5 minute walk from Cononley station which is served by the busy Bradford to Skipton line and has 4 trains an hour in peak times - Call us and if we have time we’d gladly arrange to pick you up from the station if you don’t fancy the short walk.
Perhaps the favourite features of the area, and one of the reasons why Gary is here, are the local walks. We are close to the Yorkshire Dales which offer some of the country’s best walking but we are also close by to some excellent Pennine walking and other, more local, excursions. We have included details of some of our favourite walks put together by Gary - but he has walked pretty much all of the region and would be happy to talk to you about any of the walking opportunities in the area. In fact, if you let him, he’ll keep you talking about them for so long you won’t actually have time to set foot outside the pub.
